If the National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning due to heavy rainfall and the risk of flash flooding, make  sure you are aware of the below:

Impacts

  • * Rapid, life-threatening flooding of low-lying areas and small streams is expected.
  • * Flooding may cause road closures, making travel dangerous or impossible.
  • * Homes and businesses in flood-prone areas may be at risk.

Safety Precautions

  1. Seek Higher Ground: Move to higher ground immediately if you are in a flood-prone area. Do not wait for official evacuation orders.
  2.
  3. Avoid Flooded Areas: Do not attempt to cross flooded roads or walk/drive through moving water. It is challenging to gauge water depth and the strength of the current.
  4.
  5. Stay Informed: Monitor local news, weather alerts, and emergency services for updates. Be prepared to take action if conditions worsen.
  6.
  7. Emergency Kit: Have an emergency kit ready with essential supplies, including non-perishable food, water, medications, and important documents.
  8.
  9. Assist Others: Check on neighbors and family members, especially those who are elderly or have limited mobility.
  10.

Flash floods can occur rapidly and without warning. Your safety is of utmost importance. Please follow these precautions and take appropriate action immediately.
