Just as people have zodiac signs and horoscopes according to their date of birth, pets are no different. Dogs, cats, and other furry household members may not be aware of their horoscopes, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be. While every animal is unique and has its own personality, understanding your pet's horoscope might lead to a better relationship with them.
Pet Horoscopes and What They Mean
Even if you don't buy into the idea of horoscopes for you or your pets, they're a lot of fun! Just as with people, there are twelve zodiac signs for pets, and each one has to do with the date of their birth.
Capricorn: December 22 - January 19
If your pet is hardworking, loyal to a fault, and fiercely determined, there’s a good chance they’re a Capricorn. Capricorns are kind of like the salt of the earth when it comes to pets. They are typically fairly quiet and calm, and make excellent workers. Border collies and German Shepherds are good examples of dogs that exemplify the personality and traits of a Capricorn.
Aquarius: January 20 - February 19
As with people, pets with an Aquarius zodiac sign are like the nutty professors of the animal world. You can expect these pets to be quirky and eccentric and to be very introverted. They’ll often go off on their own and explore the world around them but always come back to you for cuddles when they’re done. Aquarius pets have very unique personalities from other animals around them.
Pisces: February 20 - March 20
If you’ve ever raised an uber-sensitive child, then you have a good idea of how to handle a Pisces pet. Pets with a Pisces zodiac sign tend to be very gentle and sensitive and desire to be treated as such. Therefore, you should take special care when training a Pisces because they’ll respond better to the carrot than the stick. Pisces can also pick up on what their owner is feeling and are very loyal to them.
Aries: March 21 - April 20
While the first three horoscopes we looked at are calm and loyal, Aries is much different. While they’re loyal to their owners, Aries pets are anything but calm. They’re full of energy and vigor and like to blaze their own trail. If pets were capable of taking leadership roles, an Aries would run for president, command an army, and rule the roost. While these pets are headstrong and more difficult to train, they’ll be the best companion imaginable when you win them over.
Taurus: April 21 - May 20
Sticking to the vein of stubborn pets who want to do their own thing, we come to Taurus. Taurus pets are the kings and queens of the animal kingdom. They crave luxury and comfort, often at the expense of those around them. Like Aries, they like to blaze their own paths and do their own things. Rather than running around and playing fetch, Taurus pets prefer belly rubs, a soft bed, and a warm meal.
Gemini: May 21 - June 20
Gemini pets are happy, friendly animals that love to play and socialize with others. They are very inclusive and don’t know what it means to have an enemy. While Gemini’s are independent and like a good time, they don’t like anyone better than their owner. They will even try to communicate with you and respond when you talk to them.
Cancer: June 21 - July 22
If you’re looking for a guard dog or fiercely loyal companion, you should seek out a Cancer. Cancers will put your safety and well-being above their own and will make you their number one priority. They’re very intelligent and caring animals, which means they’ll pick up on sudden changes in your mood or daily routine. However, because of this intelligence and intuition, Cancers can sometimes get upset stomachs or sick when there are too many changes.
Leo: July 23 - August 22
Leo pets are the singers, movie stars, and celebrities of the pet world. They love to be the center of everyone’s attention and will do whatever they must to attain it. Because of this posh attitude and personality, however, Leo pets tend to be self-centered and lazy if you don’t train them from a young age. On the other hand, because of how confident and intelligent Leo’s are, they can also be your best friend and ally.
Virgo: August 23 - September 22
Virgo’s make the ideal pet if training and loyalty are at the top of your priority list. Virgo’s are very intelligent, detail-oriented, and task-driven. As such, they crave stability and an environment where they know exactly what’s expected of them. Virgo’s are also easier to train than other horoscopes.
Libra: September 23 - October 22
Just as Aquarius pets are extremely introverted, Libra’s are the exact opposite. They love to play and socialize with other animals and people and will do whatever they must to receive your love and affection.
Scorpio: October 23 - November 22
Scorpios have a strong, type-A personality and are some of the most stubborn and strong-willed pets you can have. Scorpios are highly intelligent and mischievous and love to discover new things. However, if you can earn their trust and respect, Scorpio’s will be more loyal to you than your best friend or spouse.
Sagittarius: November 23 - December 21
As with Scorpios, Sagittarius pets are highly intelligent and independent. However, unlike Scorpios, these pets direct their energy towards exploring new bounds and playing with others rather than being stubborn and willful. If you like the outdoors, hiking, kayaking, and other exciting nature activities, a Sagittarius is definitely the pet for you.
Does My Horoscope Have to Match My Pets?
Regardless of what your zodiac sign is versus that of your pet, you can make your relationship work. While having a matching horoscope might help you better understand your pet and why they do the things they do, mismatching horoscopes don't make you incompatible. Pets, like people, are unique, and no two are the same. Therefore, as long as you're willing to put in the time and work, you can build a relationship with any pet, regardless of their horoscope.
